16th November 2011

Over the past week I have continued to progress through the digital imaging software by creating my CD cover and case which have now been completed.

Throughout the week I noticed a few problems with the work that i had created, the front cover for the CD that was meant to fit into a case was not to scale and the hole in the middle of the CD was off center and to small. To fix these problems I had to re-scale the cover so that it was the correct size afterwards i printed it off again to see if it was correct, afterwards to fix the hole issue I looked on the internet for the correct measurements and then corrected it according to the measurements that were given, this then corrected the problem.

Below are the correct measurements for the CD

The process for the CD Label was fairly simple, I started by creating a circle which would then be used for the CD and then created different things to go on it, such as the balloon and other various pieces of work that complimented the theme.

Afterwards I started to create the background on the disc to make it less plain and more enjoyable and eye catching to anyone who see's it. To keep in with the theme I added a sky background.

After this was done I started to add the text and title for the game which I plan on promoting which is Bloons Tower Defence 4. I selected this game because I find it fun and addictive to play with all of the different levels and towers that can be used.

And finally I started to add the more simple and common details on any disc which was the text around the outside about copyright and the sticker which says that its a DVD video.

The picture above is the completed version of my CD label. I think that the CD label is good because it draws in the viewers attention because of all of the bright colours, because of this it becomes more interesting to look at.

Overview Of The Year So Far

Throughout the last few months there have been lots of different things that I have learnt such as how to use, create and modify pictures using Photoshop, how to create parts of a website by using the correct scripts in Web Based Design and finally I have learnt about the different multimedia hardware that has and can be used on different types of platforms.

When I started this course I had no knowledge on how to use Photoshop, however after using it for the past few months I have learnt how to create and modify pictures to a good standard. Some of the common tools that I have learnt how to use are Quick selection tool, brush tool, opacity tool, layers and Smudge tool, these tools are the ones that I have used the most over the past few months and are the ones that have helped me the most in creating what I have to do. Because I had never used Photoshop before I came across a lot of problems, to correct these problems I looked at different tutorials on the internet so that I could increase my knowledge on how to do certain things using Photoshop, with this information I am less likely to make mistakes in the future.

Web Based Design is another subject that I have never used before and so I had to learn everything from scratch. The subject is fairly simple however one of the problems I have found is trying to remember what goes where and which symbols have to be used. To correct this issue I had to note down what goes where, by doing this I can easily go back and look it up if I ever get stuck on what to do. I have learned a lot from the sessions and I now know how to create a simple and basic website however there is still a lot that I need to learn however with the information I have been given I’m sure I will be able to complete the tasks that need to be completed before the deadline.

Multimedia hardware is an ok subject, there are a lot of things that have to be remembered just like Web based Design however this subject is more to do with hardware and software that can be used on different machines. I have learned a lot throughout the past few months such as different types of multimedia hardware and what types of hardware there are that can be used for different things.

2nd November 2011

Today i continued to develop my CD cover for Digital Imaging Software, the process went quite smoothly however there was a problem when it came to blending the different colors together. This problem was corrected by creating different layers and working on them individually and then merging them together into the same layer, doing this made the process easier and quicker as there were less mistakes to be made.

11th October 2011

Today we learnt more about computer systems and how computers work with Neil Hateley, in this lesson we talked about the different memories, interfaces, storage, display and servers that can be used on a computer such as versatile and non-versatile memory, RAM (Random Access Memory), error detection, magnet disks, CD-ROM Formats and external disk systems. Afterwards we had a lesson with Greg Cooley which we learnt more about photoshop and how to use it, Greg was also nice enough to give us a website that had lots of different photoshop tutorials on it to help us get to grips on how photoshop works.

The Photoshop Tutorial Videos can be found here:

Maths Questions With Neil

Today I learnt about binary and hexadecimal numbers with Neil Hateley, in that lesson we listened to lectures and then started to complete a set of questions related to the subject, we then completed the questions in the next lesson and went through the answers. the questions were confusing and difficult however i started to get a better understanding of how to do them towards the end of the lesson.

Good Start To The Year

Day started great, a few lectures on Digital Imaging Software and Design Techniques from Neil Hateley throughout the day which was followed by a discussion about job placements with Ken McKerral. Overall it was a good day and hopefully it will be like this for the next 2 years.
